Urban Leather - Leather Care

Naked and Anilines
These leathers are very lightly finished or not finished at all (Naked), and proper care will help keep their natural feel and luster.

Remove dust often, with a vacuum cleaner or a damp cloth (in distilled water) Blot spills immediately, do not let them soak into the leather Clean very gently, either with leather cleaner or anilines or just a damp cloth (in distilled water) and let it dry naturally. Many stains tend to disappear, if not immediately, after a few days – some darkening can be expected.
Nubucks
These are also leathers with very little or no finish at all, similar to the ones above but with a soft nap. The warm feel they naturally have can be kept for a long time.

  • Remove dust often, with a vacuum cleaner or a dry cloth and brush periodically with a suede brush.
  • Blot spills immediately, do not let them soak into the leather
  • Let dry naturally
  • When dry, rub gently with a suede brush; this will raise the nap again.
  • Many stains will tend to disappear, if not immediately after a few days, some darkening can be expected.
Waxed and Oiled
These are aniline leathers, where the effects are done by applying oils and waxes. Special care has to be taken to avoid scraping them, it is important to keep the furniture far from heat sources. Waxes become soft when heated, and the leather could change its look.

  • Remove dust often with a vacuum cleaner or dry cloth
  • Blot spills immediately do not let them soak into the leather
  • Let dry naturally.
  • Do not wax or saddle soaps: look for a care product designed for waxed and oiled leathers.
  • Slight changes in the appearance of the leather may occur. This is normal in these types of leathers.

Protected
These leathers are fully finished and top-coated for easy cleaning and for fade resistance. This type of finish makes the natural defects less noticeable, the color more uniform, and the finish more stain repellent.
  • Remove dust often and clean periodically with a damp cloth.
  • Blot any spills and wipe gently in one direction in the area with a damp cloth.
  • If a stain develops, use a cloth dampened in a mild soap solution to gently wipe the area. Avoid soaking the leather.
  • After removing the stain, use a clean damp cloth (in distilled water) to remove the soap.
  • Use water-based leather care and cleaning products that are designed for upholstery leather; such as Leathertex cleaner and conditioner.
Don’ts
  • Do not place furniture in direct sunlight. Remember that the sun is a natural bleaching agent causing all fabrics and leather upholstery to lighten slightly over time.
  • Do not place furniture on or near heat sources. Direct heat will cause natural leather to crack and age prematurely.
  • Do not use cleaning products that are not specially designed for upholstery.
  • Do not use solvents to clean leather furniture.
Remember
  • Leather is a natural product and requires some care to maintain the natural beauty of the hide.
  • For minor or slight scratches on the surface, use chamois or clean fingers to gently buff the scratch. The friction and heat from the rubbing helps redistribute the wax in the surrounding area to cover the scratch.
  • The above technique may not work on deeper scratches.
  • Leather is not for everyone. Customers with children or pets will see more severe scratches and scuffs than the average leather customer.
